Tucked inside Mile 16 Private Beach Estate in Yzerfontein, this two-bedroom self-catering beach house is just a few hundred metres from direct access to 16 Mile Beach.
Songbird is more than a beach house. It is our home - shared only a few times each year with guests who appreciate birdsong in the trees, ocean air and the quiet beauty of the West Coast.
It is a place shaped by time and care, and by the simple pace of coastal living. Every corner reflects the love we have poured into it, from the artwork on the walls to the thoughtful details that make it feel comfortable and welcoming.
The name Songbird unfolded naturally. When we bought the house, a small bird decal was already on one of the windows. Two lovebirds made it their home and somewhere between ocean walks and evenings in the garden, Eva Cassidy’s “Songbird” became part of its story.
For us, the name represents something simple but meaningful - love given freely, shared generously and rooted in warmth and belonging.
Opening Songbird to guests is our way of sharing what we love most: the sound of the sea at night, the birds in the trees at dawn, slow mornings with good coffee, a garden that invites you to sit, breathe and stay a little longer, long beach walks on 16 Mile Beach, and the unmistakable beauty of the West Coast.

Two spacious bedrooms each featuring a comfortable queen bed, with the main bedroom offering a convenient en-suite shower and a second bathroom equipped with a bath and shower overhead. Essentials such as linen and towels are included and a hairdryer is available in the main bedroom for your convenience.

Discover a fully equipped kitchen featuring a gas stove and a dishwasher for effortless cleanup. Coffee lovers will appreciate the Breville Café Venezia manual espresso machine, along with a coffee grinder - just remember to bring your favourite blend. For tea enthusiasts, a teapot is also available. You'll find a coffee plunger and basic pantry staples such as salt, pepper, and a variety of spices.

This is a place for long walks on 16 Mile Beach, fresh coffee and croissants from Rosemead Artisan Bakery (about 500 m away), and unhurried lunches at Lula’s or The Beach House.
When you feel like exploring, you are perfectly placed for easy West Coast day trips. Start with a scenic drive to Darling and combine it with a Groote Post wine tasting on the way. Choose between a visit to !Khwa ttu (a San culture and education centre set within a nature reserve) or a day in West Coast National Park, where the Langebaan Lagoon offers beautiful views and excellent birding.
If you are visiting in spring, plan your West Coast National Park outing around the annual flower season, when the landscape is at its most colourful, often peaking from mid-August to mid-September.
Keep an eye on the horizon too, this stretch of coast is known for seasonal whale sightings, and Dassen Island adds to the wild, untamed feel of our seascape.
Yzerfontein Main Beach, a designated swimming beach, sits right alongside 16 Mile Beach, giving you an easy option for calmer waters when you feel like a swim or a relaxed beach day.
